EXPERIENCE SOMETHING CREATIVE

This popular free arts event takes place on the First Friday of every month from 5-9 pm throughout the 28 acre campus. After 10 years, it has grown into San Diego’s biggest innovative arts event! Meet working artists, enjoy dance, theatre and music performances featuring community partners and discover intriguing public art installations. Wander and explore the galleries, museums, artist studios, distinctive shops and dining at historic Liberty Station.

August 2nd, 2019 - Art in the Garden + MOVIE NIGHT

This First Friday will be extra special with Art in the Garden, enjoy Danzarts performances and live music while exploring the galleries, museums, artist studios, shops and dining at historic Liberty Station, plus a free outdoor film screening of At Eternity’s Gate under the stars thanks to event sponsor San Diego Watercolor Society!

MUSEUM | Visions Art Museum features Defining Moments: Stitched Perspectives on Becoming a Woman, the work of two art quilters, Carol Larson and the late Marion Coleman confronting a wide range of challenging social, political, and economic issues. 5 – 8 PM in Building 202 – 2825 Dewey Rd.

NEW ART | San Diego Craft Collective, a new group to the ARTS DISTRICT, invites guests to an open house to meet the faces behind their new nonprofit and at 5 pm, experience a Waldorf story time by Amy Cho from Amy’s Daisies. Open 5 – 9 PM in Bldg. 176 – 2590 Truxtun Rd.

ART | June Rubin Studio features Sun Shadows an eclectic group of artworks by San Diego artist June Rubin that depict the play of light on the natural world.  All ages welcome. 5 – 9 PM in Barracks 19, second floor.

 

KNITTING | Apricot Yarn & Supply invite guests to First Friday Knit Night, a social stitching time open to all – knitters, crocheters, friends and family. Hang out, have some treats, meet new people. No RSVP required. 5 – 9 PM in Barracks 19.

 

ART | Susan’s Salazar and Lisa Bryson Artists Studio open gallery with working artists drawing and painting. 5 – 9 PM in Barracks 19, second floor.

ART | Veltz Fine Art open art gallery featuring Invasive vs Native, an exhibit of contemporary mixed media paintings exploring Sunset Cliffs native plants. 5 – 9 PM in Barracks 16.

 

ART | Lauren LeVieux Artist Studio celebrates National Coloring Book Day with On Line and Color, stop by and color a giant sized coloring book while considering what line and color have done for us so far. Unique Coloring Books available. Artist Talk at 6:15 PM. Open 5 – 9 PM in Barracks 16.

 

ART | San Diego Brain Injury Foundation features art by Michelle Schaefer, who suffered a brain injury after being struck by a car in 1992. She was unable to return to medical school after her injury, but now paints and creates beautiful sculptures. Come meet and see her works. 5 – 8 PM in Barracks 16, second floor. 

 

ART | San Diego Writer’s, Ink. features Paul Edwards’ kaleidoscope art in the Ink Spot and Inspirations galleries. 5 – 8 PM in Barracks 16, second floor. 

 

FILM | Women’s Museum of California showcases a film and docent led tours of the Gallery Exhibit Heroines on the Home Front, stories of the women who first penetrated the male domains in the workplace during WWII. Explore the impact of the real Rose the Riveters. Tours 5:30 – 7:30 PM. Open 5 – 9 PM in Barracks 16.

ART | Blue Pearl Art invites guests to stop by the booth in the garden to help paint the background for her next piece and vote on her next subject! 5 – 9 PM just outside Barracks 15.

 

JEWELRY | Anneville Jewelry Lab invites guests to explore the world of semi-precious gemstones with master lapidarist Michael Hendrix of Minarex. Shop unique stones, discuss a custom setting, or sign up to take a class and learn how! 5 – 9 PM in Barracks 15, second floor.

TEA | Point Loma Tea celebrates summertime featuring summer tea blends and accessories, plus local artist, Dawn Bender. 5 – 9 PM in Barracks 14. 

 

NEW ARTIST | Nina Montejano Artist Studio a new artist to ARTS DISTRICT will be exhibiting and selling her new works of quiet and subdued graphite drawings, exploring light and shadow through ordinary detail. 5 – 9 PM in Barracks 14, second floor.
