Arts and Culture Ambassadors

Ambassadors are friendly, outgoing, well-spoken individuals who have a love for people, history, and arts and culture, and who want to share it with the San Diego community. Ambassadors work at our Friday Night Liberty event (held the first Friday of each month from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.) by welcoming and assisting visitors with directions, handing out programs, informing people of what events are happening around them, and answering general questions about the campus and artists.

Requirements

  • Reliability and good communication skills.
  • Outgoing and personable attitude with an easy ability to smile.
  • Passion for arts, culture, history, and things unique to San Diego.

Duties

  • Stock brochures and informational materials in the Dick Laub NTC Command Center and centrally located brochure racks.
  • Ensure main areas around the campus are clean and well-maintained for visitors.
  • Help visitors locate specific galleries, performances, or other landmarks.
  • Answer frequently asked questions about ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station.
  • Pass out Friday Night Liberty programs to visitors.
  • Make visitors to Friday Night Liberty feel welcome and comfortable on campus.

Volunteer Services Manager/Lead Volunteer

The Volunteer Services Manager is responsible for all aspects of the volunteer program, including the recruitment, retention, processing, and coordination of all volunteers. This position works closely with the entire staff to ensure that all levels of volunteers have a positive experience while working to build a revitalized San Diego through arts and historical preservation.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs preferred.
  • Three-plus years experience with a nonprofit organization desirable.
  • Able to multitask and coordinate numerous activities and groups of people.
  • Has a passion for arts and culture, naval history, or community-building.
  • Good oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively.
  • Outgoing, friendly, eloquent, and comfortable in social settings.
  • Ability to act and work independently as well as with a team.
  • Ability to interact with diverse groups of people and organizations.
  • Shares ARTS DISTRICT’s mission with large and small groups of potential volunteers.

 

Duties

  • Work with staff, board, and committee chairs to manage the organization’s volunteer needs.
  • Recruit, schedule, and assign volunteers in conjunction with NTC Foundation needs, goals, and objectives.
  • Respond to all individual and group inquiries.
  • Screen and place volunteers for specific needs, such as Friday Night Liberty, office administration, and public events.
  • Coordinate and communicate event schedules to volunteers.
  • Run orientations and trainings for volunteers prior to events.
  • Develop new programs/opportunities for volunteers.
  • Attend volunteer recruitment fairs, events, and speaking engagements throughout San Diego County.
  • Retain valuable volunteers, such as skilled builders, regulars, midweek workers, and qualified Ambassadors.
  • Prepare job descriptions for volunteer positions with staff.
  • Ensure volunteer liability waivers and confidentiality forms are signed and filed.
  • Develop and implement formal and informal volunteer appreciation programs with staff.
  • Attend quarterly Friends of NTC events as Lead Volunteer.
