From Navy Base to Arts District

Arts District Liberty Station

NTC Foundation

NTC Foundation was established in 2000 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit to enrich the lives of San Diegans by renovating this signature community asset and creating, facilitating, and operating Arts District Liberty Station as a 100-acre creative district. Visitors experience the arts, culture, creativity, and cuisine that are the hallmarks of the San Diego region and enjoy innovative experiences in a historic setting at Liberty Station that inspire lives for generations to come.

Thanks to community and donor support, NTC Foundation is working to advance Arts District Liberty Station to be (1) a center for arts, culture, and creativity that offers innovative experiences to both residents and visitors, (2) a creative hub for San Diego’s nonprofits and artists, (3) a dynamic destination for children and families, and (4) a historical showcase that honors the city’s Navy heritage.

Our Mission

The mission of Arts District Liberty Station is to activate a dynamic and historic campus where enriching cultural experiences, impactful learning opportunities, and inspiring events are accessible to all.

Our Vision

Our vision is to be a world-class arts district in the transborder region where creativity, culture, and community thrive.

Bravo Zulu- Celebrating 10 Years

Commissioned in 1923, the historic Naval Training Center was the Cradle of the Navy in San Diego. Though closed in 1997, it continues to hold the memories of past generations and naval recruits whose lives were transformed at NTC.

Thanks to a collective civic vision and the efforts of many, what was a loss to San Diego’s navy prestige is now a major destination for arts and culture, Navy heritage, historic preservation, distinctive cuisine and retail, and an economic engine for the region.  The transformation of this Navy base into an Arts District is a model of what can be achieved.

Take a look back and see where we started with acres of shuttered Navy buildings and how they have been transformed to a vibrant and thriving hub for arts and culture. And see what’s ahead for this burgeoning destination.
